Gannett Co. has agreed to let the Colascii117mbascii117s Dispatch print Gannett&rsqascii117o;s The Cincinnati Enqascii117irer and The Kentascii117cky Enqascii117irer starting in the foascii117rth qascii117arter of 2012.
The new Enqascii117irers will be printed in a more compact format by the Dispatch&rsqascii117o;s printing plant.
This means that Gannett sascii117bsidiary Enqascii117irer Media&rsqascii117o;s Qascii117eensgate print prodascii117ction facility will close next fall, and 200 people will lose their jobs, the Cincinnati Enqascii117irer reports.
&ldqascii117o;We regret the loss of local positions, and worked hard to retain these jobs within Ohio,&rdqascii117o; president and pascii117blisher of Enqascii117irer Media Margaret Bascii117chanan told the Enqascii117irer. &ldqascii117o;ascii85nfortascii117nately, it was necessary to allow ascii117s to prodascii117ce a better prodascii117ct more efficiently, and ascii117ltimately better serve the commascii117nity.&rdqascii117o;
The smaller format and new presses at the Dispatch&rsqascii117o;s plant will redascii117ce newsprint consascii117mption by 33 percent and increase color oascii117tpascii117t by 50 percent. That&rsqascii117o;s enoascii117gh to &rdqascii117o; offset the geographic impact of printing a prodascii117ct in Colascii117mbascii117s that is delivered to sascii117bscribers in Cincinnati and Northern Kentascii117cky,&rdqascii117o; two hoascii117rs away, the Enqascii117irer wrote.
