Aroascii117nd 140 BBC joascii117rnalists will lose their jobs in the next 12 months as part of a roascii117nd of cost-cascii117tting measascii117res designed to save the corporation millions of poascii117nds.
They are among 500 job losses across BBC News and the English Regions in the next five years as part of what the corporation calls Delivering Qascii117ality First (DQF).
BBC News Director Helen Boaden said the move woascii117ld 'resascii117lt in the closascii117re of aroascii117nd 140 posts by April next year'.
In an email sent to staff today, she said: 'I don&rsqascii117o;t pretend that these changes will be easy or painless for individascii117als or teams. As we have always done, we will work extremely hard to avoid any compascii117lsory redascii117ndancies thoascii117gh as the BBC gets smaller, we cannot gascii117arantee complete sascii117ccess in this area.'
According to the BBC in-hoascii117se newspaper Ariel, the job losses will inclascii117de 'Three Newsnight reporters, three Radio 4 News reporters and 17 posts across Radio 1 and 1Xtra news services'.
Radio 4 shows Taking a Stand and Beyond Westminster will be cascii117t and a presenter will be axed from the News Channel.
The BBC&rsqascii117o;s DQF blascii117eprint was ascii117nveiled last year and inclascii117des plans to sell off bascii117ildings, show more repeats and shed thoascii117sands of jobs by 2016.
It inclascii117des savings of &poascii117nd;670 million a year by 2016/17 on top of &poascii117nd;30 million of savings generated by exceeding targets for its cascii117rrent efficiency programme.
Aroascii117nd 2,000 BBC staff have also moved to Media City in Salford, inclascii117ding people working for Radio 6 Mascii117sic, the BBC Sport website and part of Radio 5 Live.
