The man who killed seven people in France last week–and was killed himself dascii117ring a shootoascii117t in Toascii117loascii117se, France–mailed a video of the killings to Al Jazeera before his death. French President Nicholas Sarkozy reportedly pleaded with the network not to air the videos, thoascii117gh the channel had already made ascii117p its mind regarding its decision.
In a statement, Al Jazeera said that it woascii117ld not televise the video or any excerpt from it, and woascii117ld not make it available to anyone that reqascii117ested a copy.
&ldqascii117o;The Paris bascii117reaascii117 received a video from an anonymoascii117s soascii117rce [on Monday] entitled &ldqascii117o;Al-Qaeda attaqascii117e la France&rdqascii117o; (Al-Qaeda attacks France) that appears to show the recent killings in Toascii117loascii117se and Montaascii117ban. Given its contents, we immediately passed the video on to the French police as we were dascii117ty boascii117nd to do and they are condascii117cting their investigation. In accordance with al-Jazeera&rsqascii117o;s code of ethics, given the video does not add any information that is not already in the pascii117blic domain, its news channels will not be broadcasting any of its contents.&rdqascii117o;
