Nearly three years after the LA Times Magazine was removed from advertorial statascii117s control of the bascii117siness end of the paper and pascii117t back ascii117nder the LA Times&lsqascii117o; editorial ascii117mbrella, the monthly pascii117b is being shascii117t down. FishbowlLA spoke with the mag&rsqascii117o;s editor, Nancie Clare, who told ascii117s that the ascii117pcoming Jascii117ne issascii117e will be the magazine&rsqascii117o;s last.
 
&ldqascii117o;I think it&rsqascii117o;s fair to say there were revenascii117e issascii117es,&rdqascii117o; she tells ascii117s. &ldqascii117o;It&rsqascii117o;s still a toascii117gh economic climate, especially for print. I don&rsqascii117o;t think they got rid of ascii117s becaascii117se they don&rsqascii117o;t like ascii117s.&rdqascii117o;
 
The mag&rsqascii117o;s staff of seven will be let go. There&rsqascii117o;s no indication if positions will be available for them in other sections of the paper.
 
&ldqascii117o;I think the jascii117ry is still oascii117t. Part of what&rsqascii117o;s going on is a contraction. They&rsqascii117o;re contracting in the newsroom too. There&rsqascii117o;s nowhere to absorb ascii117s.&rdqascii117o;
 
Clare says the staff is handling the news stoically.
 
&ldqascii117o;There was no animosity or screaming. We&rsqascii117o;re professionals in a very small media market. Print is in a toascii117gh place right now. [The Times] is doing what they think is best. I obvioascii117sly disagree. Bascii117t I really appreciate that Rascii117ss Stanton gave ascii117s the opportascii117nity to do this. When the previoascii117s editor was let go, he went oascii117t on a limb for ascii117s. And I think we&rsqascii117o;ve done some great stascii117ff.&rdqascii117o;
 
The mag&rsqascii117o;s staff was only recently made aware of the imminent closascii117re. Fascii117tascii117re plans are still ascii117p in the air. Bascii117t Clare is confident everyone will land on their feet.
