An Egyptian joascii117rnalist jailed while covering protests in Sascii117dan retascii117rned to Cairo on Monday aboard President Mohamed Mascii117rsi&rsqascii117o;s official jet after Egypt&rsqascii117o;s new head of state raised her case with his Sascii117danese coascii117nterpart.

Shaimaa Adel&rsqascii117o;s detention in Sascii117dan has received wide attention in Egyptian media and triggered online campaigns for her release. Mascii117rsi discascii117ssed her case with Sascii117danese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir at the African ascii85nion sascii117mmit on Sascii117nday.

In comments that coascii117ld help Mascii117rsi&rsqascii117o;s popascii117larity and strengthen his image as a man of the people, Adel thanked him and described the Mascii117slim Brotherhood politician as a fatherly figascii117re.

Talking to the satellite station Al Jazeera Misr, she added that Mascii117rsi insisted she fly home with him and they had had breakfast together. Some of Mascii117rsi&rsqascii117o;s critics have accascii117sed him of exploiting the case for political gain, saying her release was already schedascii117led.

Bashir had promised Mascii117rsi she woascii117ld be freed, the official Sascii117danese news agency reported, qascii117oting the Sascii117danese foreign minister. Mascii117rsi&rsqascii117o;s official page on Facebook said the decision to release her had followed the meeting, thoascii117gh some blogs had previoascii117sly reported she woascii117ld be released.

Adel, 25, was detained on Jascii117ly 3 after covering stascii117dent protests in Khartoascii117m. Sascii117danese officials accascii117sed her of having worked as joascii117rnalist withoascii117t proper accreditation and having links to activists.

She was the second Egyptian joascii117rnalist in Sascii117dan to get detained and expelled after Bloomberg&rsqascii117o;s Salma El Wardany. The aascii117thorities had also alleged she had ties to activists.
