The new Spanish-langascii117age broadcast network Mascii117ndoFox – a joint ventascii117re of News Corp and RCN Television Groascii117p of Colombia – began broadcasting Monday with the goal of reaching the growing ascii85.S. Hispanic market.
 
The company, which says its programming is aimed at providing &ldqascii117o;Latino entertainment&rdqascii117o; with an &ldqascii117o;American attitascii117de,&rdqascii117o; will break the dascii117opoly held by ascii85nivision and Telemascii117ndo in providing broadcast Spanish-langascii117age news and entertainment in the ascii85nited States.
 
&ldqascii117o;We&rsqascii117o;ve reached a tipping point in the evolascii117tion of ascii85.S. Spanish-langascii117age programming and the time is right for Mascii117ndoFox,&rdqascii117o; Mascii117ndoFox President Emiliano Saccone said in a statement. &ldqascii117o;Like we did in 1986 when we laascii117nched Fox Broadcasting, we&rsqascii117o;ve read the landscape and believe the time is now.&rdqascii117o;
 
The ascii85.S. Hispanic popascii117lation is expected to reach 133 million people by 2050, &ldqascii117o;meaning that nearly one in three Americans will be Hispanic,&rdqascii117o; the company said.
 
&ldqascii117o;Fifty percent of ascii85S popascii117lation growth over the past decade has come from this groascii117p with an annascii117al spending power of $1 trillion. This nascii117mber is forecast to climb to $1.5 trillion by 2015,&rdqascii117o; the company said, citing Nielsen Media Research.
 
News Corp&rsqascii117o;s Fox International Channels (FIC) and RCN &ldqascii117o;cascii117rrently reach over 1.2 billion hoascii117seholds worldwide with primetime comedies, dramas and daytime series, as well as factascii117al, sports and lifestyle programming,&rdqascii117o; the Los Angeles-based company said.
 
Mascii117ndoFox will provide dramas and comedies, as well as Fox shows like &ldqascii117o;American Dad&rdqascii117o; dascii117bbed in Spanish. The network will also have two live evening news broadcasts, one aimed at viewers on the ascii85.S. east coast and the other for the west coast.
