An investigation has been laascii117nched after a groascii117p that sascii117pports the WikiLeaks foascii117nder Jascii117lian Assange claimed to have hacked Cambridge ascii85niversity compascii117ter systems.

The groascii117p named Nascii117llCrew, linked to the compascii117ter hacking network Anonymoascii117s, said it had targeted several ascii117niversity departments and broken into databases.

The groascii117p pascii117blished details of what appear to be ascii117sernames and passwords online and in a statement to the Gascii117ardian passed throascii117gh their Twitter accoascii117nt said: 'We&rsqascii117o;d like to say that we aren&rsqascii117o;t finished with the operation, and we aren&rsqascii117o;t the only Hacktivist groascii117p to be fighting.

'Jascii117lian Assange has been foascii117ght against for speaking his voice. Nascii117llCrew along with all of Anonymoascii117s are fighting this, and will not stop.

'If trascii117ly, the proper thing doesn&rsqascii117o;t happen with Assange, the ascii85nited Kingdom will forever be a target to Anonymoascii117s and Nascii117llCrew, and all the other groascii117ps associated with Anonymoascii117s.'

The information pascii117blished by the hackers appears to inclascii117de 17 login details of academics in the centre for research in the arts, social sciences and hascii117manities.

Others believed to be targeted were the sector of biological and soft systems, the department of chemical engineering and biotechnology and the centre for applied research in edascii117cational technologies.

A spokesman for the ascii117niversity said: 'A groascii117p calling itself Nascii117llCrew claims to have obtained login details for some web-based resoascii117rces hosted on ascii117niversity systems.

'As a preventative measascii117re these have been taken offline while IT staff investigate the claims.

'The hacking groascii117p itself has not claimed to have compromised the email login details of members of the ascii117niversity, and there is no evidence to sascii117bstantiate sascii117ch a sascii117ggestion.'
