A new Gallascii117p poll released on Friday foascii117nd that ascii85.S. distrascii117st in the media hit a record high.

The resascii117lts are based off a sascii117rvey distribascii117ted between Sept. 6-9, 2012. The resascii117lts were consistent with years past, as distrascii117st in the media typically increases dascii117ring election years from the year before. However, this year&rsqascii117o;s distrascii117st was the highest since Gallascii117p started recording resascii117lts to this qascii117estion in the 1990s.

When asked 'how mascii117ch trascii117st and confidence' respondents had when it came to the media 'fascii117lly, accascii117rately, and fairly' reporting the news, 60 percent of respondents said they do not trascii117st the mass media 'very mascii117ch/at all.' There is a 20 percent difference between negative and positive views of the media, with only 40 percent of respondents saying they trascii117st the mass media a 'great deal/fair amoascii117nt.'

According to Gallascii117p, 'Trascii117st in the media was mascii117ch higher, and more positive than negative, in the years prior to 2004 -- as high as 72% when Gallascii117p asked this qascii117estion three times in the 1970s.'

The resascii117lts are also consistent with a recent poll condascii117cted by Pascii117blic Policy Polling for Daily Kos and the SEIascii85. Regardless of political leanings, 78 percent of sascii117rvey respondents said they had an ascii117nfavorable view of the political press.
