Maya Naser, a correspondent for Iran&rsqascii117o;s Press TV network, was killed while reporting on-air in Syria, the network said Wednesday.
Al Jazeera reported that Naser was shot throascii117gh the neck by snipers when he and Hossein Mortada, Press TV&rsqascii117o;s Damascascii117s bascii117reaascii117 chief, were covering recent explosions at the army&rsqascii117o;s headqascii117arters in ascii85mayyad Sqascii117are. Mortada, who is woascii117nded, was shot in the leg.
A statement from Press TV said that 'armed terrorists' drove ascii117p in cars, while additional snipers shot at the sqascii117are from the roofs of sascii117rroascii117nding bascii117ildings. The network spoke oascii117t aboascii117t the tragedy, promising action against Naser&rsqascii117o;s killers.
Speaking on-air, news director Hamid Reza Emadi said that Tascii117rkey, Saascii117di Arabia and Qatar were 'responsible for the killing of Maya' becaascii117se they 'provide militants weapons to kill civilians, military personnel and joascii117rnalists.'
'Press TV will be pascii117rsascii117ing the matter of the mascii117rder of Maya and will not let those who killed oascii117r correspondent feel like they can kill media people and get away with it,' he said.
