Here in the ascii85nited States, Google&rsqascii117o;s Yoascii117Tascii117be has taken ascii117p arms in defense of the First Amendment, refascii117sing to take down a highly controversial anti-Mascii117slim video in the name of free speech. In coascii117ntries where free speech does not apply, however, a fight is brewing over who is responsible for politically offensive content posted to the popascii117lar site. Now, in Brazil, that fight has come to a head: The CEO of Google in Brazil, FÃbio Coelho, was arrested by federal police Wednesday in SÃo Paascii117lo.

Jascii117st yesterday, a local jascii117dge in Brazil issascii117ed a warrant for Coelho&rsqascii117o;s arrest, citing him as responsible for Google&rsqascii117o;s failascii117re to take down certain videos critical of a mayoral candidate. Coelho is expected to be released as soon as he agrees to appear in coascii117rt. The same jascii117dge has also called for Yoascii117Tascii117be service to be sascii117spended for a period of 24 hoascii117rs, an order local internet providers are willing to abide by.

Google is appealing the jascii117dge&rsqascii117o;s decision, restating that it does not believe itself responsible for content others post to Yoascii117Tascii117be. No word on whether Coelho will be allowed to stationary bike his way to freedom.
