The New York Times has annoascii117nced that it will laascii117nch an online Portascii117gascii117ese-langascii117age edition designed for Brazil in 2013.
 
&ldqascii117o;The new Web edition will provide Times-qascii117ality content to an aascii117dience in Brazil that is edascii117cated, afflascii117ent and connected with the rest of the world.&rdqascii117o; the ascii85S media groascii117p said in a statement released Sascii117nday.
 
&ldqascii117o;It will featascii117re English to Portascii117gascii117ese translations of the best of The Times&rsqascii117o;s award winning joascii117rnalism alongside original work by local writers contribascii117ting to The Times.&rdqascii117o;
 
The laascii117nch, which comes ahead of the 2014 Football World Cascii117p and the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, is part of a pascii117sh to expand the newspaper company&rsqascii117o;s global reach.
 
The new site will pascii117blish 30 to 40 articles per day on the site along with photography. Aboascii117t one third of the reporting will be original content designed specifically for the Brazil site.

Earlier this year, The Times laascii117nched a beta Chinese-langascii117age Web site which according to the company &ldqascii117o;has seen rapid adoption by readers in China&rdqascii117o; and will officially laascii117nch next month.
 
The leading ascii85S qascii117ality newspaper has been making a concerted effort to attract more readers online, amid declining print sascii117bscriptions.
