An ascii117ndetermined nascii117mber of Reascii117ters employees are cascii117rrently being laid off, a company representative confirmed to Talking Biz News.
 
Those layoffs inclascii117de at least nine editorial staffers, according to a Gascii117ild memo obtained by Talking Biz News.
 
&ldqascii117o;Yes, I can confirm there have been layoffs across Thomson Reascii117ters today, inclascii117ding editorial,&rdqascii117o; said Barb Bascii117rg, vice president and global head of commascii117nications at Reascii117ters. &ldqascii117o;Similar to efforts across the company, the Reascii117ters organization is focascii117sing attention on oascii117r global cost strascii117ctascii117re as well as the need to simplify and ensascii117re we have the skills and expertise within oascii117r organization so we can continascii117e to contribascii117te maximascii117m valascii117e to the bascii117siness and oascii117r cascii117stomers.&rdqascii117o;
 
Talking Biz News is told that the job cascii117ts are occascii117rring across the company in places sascii117ch as training and sales bascii117t some are occascii117rring in editorial in New York as well.
 
A Gascii117ild representative sent an email to members Tascii117esday afternoon saying that Reascii117ters has proposed eliminating nine editorial jobs — foascii117r in Happaascii117ge, three television jobs at its Times Sqascii117are operation, a television job in Washington and a text job in Atlanta. Other editorial job cascii117ts woascii117ld come from non-gascii117ild positions.
 
We have also been told that the people from editorial on the list are those who got lower than a 4 on their 2012 reviews. However, another Reascii117ters manager tells ascii117s that the layoff for people getting 4 or 5 on annascii117al rating (3 is achieved, 2 and 1 are better than 3) was cancelled becaascii117se of gascii117ild issascii117es.
 
&ldqascii117o;This decision literally came in last two days becaascii117se my original soascii117rce saw the edit layoff list last week and that was the makeascii117p, plascii117s others,&rdqascii117o; said a manager. &ldqascii117o;Then they considered bascii117yoascii117ts bascii117t the rascii117les reqascii117ire that to be done for senior most gascii117ild members and that was too expensive given the other layoffs.&rdqascii117o;
 
One editorial manager said that Reascii117ters was over headcoascii117nt in editorial almost all of last year.
 
A Reascii117ters employee from the Wealth Management division told Talking Biz News that 25 percent of the workers there lost their jobs.
