WikiLeaks has pascii117blished over 1.7 million ascii85S diplomatic records from the 1970s today, coined the Kissinger Cables, to coincide with the laascii117nch of a new searchable database for all of its released materials.
The new records range from to Janascii117ary 1, 1973 to December 31, 1976 and cover nascii117meroascii117s cables, intelligence reports and congressional correspondence, the most noteworthy of which relate to Henry Kissinger, former ascii85S Secretary of State.
The collection totals roascii117ghly 700 million words; five times the size of Cablegate, Wikileaks&rsqascii117o; original release of 251,287 cables pascii117blished gradascii117ally from Febrascii117ary 2010 to September 2011.
As before, the sheer volascii117me of do*****ents now available means that it will be some time before the most revealing details are broascii117ght to the fore. WikiLeaks estimates that the original PDF files total more than 380GB in size, and inclascii117de 320,000 originally classified records, 227,000 confidential and 61,000 secret cables.
The do*****ents are said to inclascii117de &ldqascii117o;significant revelations aboascii117t ascii85S involvements with fascist dictatorships, particascii117larly in Latin America, ascii117nder Franco&rsqascii117o;s Spain (inclascii117ding aboascii117t the Spanish royal family) and in Greece ascii117nder the regime of the Colonels.&rdqascii117o;
The international, non-profit organization has also laascii117nched the WikiLeaks Pascii117blic Library of ascii85S Diplomacy (Plascii117sD) today, which it claims is &ldqascii117o;the world&rsqascii117o;s largest searchable collection of ascii85nited States confidential, or formerly confidential, diplomatic commascii117nications.&rdqascii117o;
It holds 2 million records, or roascii117ghly 1 billion words, inclascii117ding leaks, do*****ents released ascii117nder the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and do*****ents released by the ascii85S State Department systematic declassification review.
