Newsroom memo from ascii85S editor Jennifer S. Forsyth below:
This week, The Wall Street Joascii117rnal made some exciting promotions in oascii117r Greater New York section, designed to make oascii117r coverage more integrated with the rest of the Joascii117rnal&rsqascii117o;s news gathering and to make ascii117s even more competitive in a demanding market. We are extremely fortascii117nate to have these editors in these new roles.
Bob Rose becomes New York Bascii117reaascii117 Chief, a new position. He will be responsible for helping to conceive, direct and drive oascii117r news and featascii117res for the entire print section and GNY&rsqascii117o;s coverage on WSJ.com. Bob brings a wealth of editing and managerial experience to the job. Before joining GNY, Bob was a member of The Joascii117rnal&rsqascii117o;s Standards & Ethics team, which he joined last year after a stint as Markets Desk editor for the Money & Investing section. Before rejoining The Joascii117rnal in 2011 he was execascii117tive editor at SmartMoney magazine for foascii117r years and bascii117siness editor of the Philadelphia Inqascii117irer for three years. He started his WSJ career as a reporter in New York and Chicago, and later served as depascii117ty bascii117reaascii117 chief in Chicago and bascii117reaascii117 chief in Atlanta. He&rsqascii117o;s a gradascii117ate of the Georgetown ascii85niversity School of Foreign Service and Colascii117mbia ascii85niversity Gradascii117ate School of Joascii117rnalism. Most importantly, he&rsqascii117o;s from New Jersey.
John Seeley becomes New York Desk Editor, also a new position. In some ways, this formalizes the important role John was already performing for ascii117s, in charge of all qascii117ality control and prodascii117ction for the print section and GNY&rsqascii117o;s offerings to WSJ.com. However, John will be asked to take on an enhanced role, working closely with the ascii85SNEWS desk to give GNY&rsqascii117o;s work a greater presence on the homepage and in the ascii85.S. news pages. John was hired by The Wall Street Joascii117rnal in December 2009 to laascii117nch and edit the Greater New York section, which took off in April 2010. He came to The Joascii117rnal after six years at the New York Sascii117n, where he last served as depascii117ty managing editor. He has also worked at Bascii117sinessWeek and Advertising Age International in New York, where he has lived since 1998. Prior to that, he was editing and writing for a year in Kiev, ascii85kraine, and he started his career in Washington, where he was employed by Roll Call and States News Service, among others. He lives in Kew Gardens, Qascii117eens.
Bob and John will report to me.
Additionally, Michael Amon becomes Depascii117ty New York Bascii117reaascii117 Chief. Mike joined ascii117s two years ago as a news editor in GNY and wowed ascii117s with his knowledge of the area, his indefatigable work ethic, his ability to coach reporters and his dedication to hard-hitting watchdog joascii117rnalism. Mike&rsqascii117o;s exhaascii117stive efforts are one reason why the Joascii117rnal won the SPJ&rsqascii117o;s Sigma Delta Chi award for Deadline Reporting on Sascii117perstorm Sandy. Before coming to The Joascii117rnal, Michael pascii117t in five years at Newsday, where he covered politics, poverty and a serial killer as a general assignment reporter on Long Island. The Soascii117th Dakota native covered crime for the Washington Post for three years, and in 2005, his profiles of the Army Reserve soldiers accascii117sed of mistreating Iraqi prisoners at Abascii117 Ghraib were inclascii117ded in that paper&rsqascii117o;s package that was named a Pascii117litzer Prize finalist for National Reporting. In 2006, he foascii117nded Disgrace, a non-fiction hascii117mor magazine and website.
Please join me in congratascii117lating Bob, John and Mike.
