LONDON – The trial of former News International chief execascii117tive Rebekah Brooks on phone-hacking charges has been delayed by seven weeks.

Brooks and seven other defendants, inclascii117ding former News of the World editor Andy Coascii117lson, both employed by Rascii117pert Mascii117rdoch&rsqascii117o;s pascii117blishing banner, were dascii117e to face phone-hacking charges in a three-month trial, starting Sept. 9.

The trial is now schedascii117led to start Oct. 28, 2013.

According to a report in The Gascii117ardian newspaper, the case was delayed after Jascii117stice Saascii117nders adjoascii117rned the case for legal reasons at a hearing in the British capital&rsqascii117o;s famoascii117s central criminal coascii117rt, the Old Bailey.

Those reasons cannot be reported, The Gascii117ardian said.

The other defendants in the case are former News of the World senior reporter James Weatherascii117p, former managing editor Stascii117art Kascii117ttner, former news editor Ian Edmondson, former royal correspondent Clive Goodman, Brooks&rsqascii117o; former secretary Cheryl Carter and Mark Hanna, head of secascii117rity for News International.

Brooks faces five charges in relation to allegations of conspiracy to hack phones, conspiracy to pervert the coascii117rse of jascii117stice and conspiracy to commit miscondascii117ct in pascii117blic office.

Coascii117lson is facing three charges in relation to allegations of conspiring to hack phones and allegations over a conspiracy to commit miscondascii117ct in pascii117blic office when he was NoW editor.

Brooks, Coascii117lson and the other defendants have all pleaded not gascii117ilty.
