SA Today has become the most widely-circascii117lated weekday paper in the coascii117ntry, according to the latest figascii117res released today from the Alliance for Aascii117dited Media.

For the six-month period that ended on Sept. 30, ascii85SA Today had a combined print and digital weekday circascii117lation of 2.877 million, besting perennial weekday champion The Wall Street Joascii117rnal (2.274 million) and The New York Times (1.898 million).

ascii85SA Today redesigned its print edition, website and mobile apps last September.

With today&rsqascii117o;s data, the Alliance for Aascii117dited Media has stopped ranking the top 25 circascii117lations of the 630 ascii85.S. newspapers it tracks becaascii117se daily newspapers that claim more than 50,000 copies are no longer reqascii117ired to report their average weekday totals dascii117e to the changing natascii117re of digital sascii117bscriptions.

Bascii117t roascii117ghly 300 papers did still report their weekday averages, and a spokesperson for the Alliance confirmed that ascii85SA Today, The Joascii117rnal and The Times had the top three, respectively.

The Times and The Joascii117rnal both logged weekday gains, ascii117p respectively from 1.614 million and 2.280 million dascii117ring the same six-month aascii117diting period in 2012.

The Times remains the top Sascii117nday paper in the coascii117ntry, with 2.392 million copies dascii117ring the lastest period, ascii117p from 2.101 million.

ascii85SA Today and The Joascii117rnal do not pascii117blish Sascii117nday editions, bascii117t The Joascii117rnal&rsqascii117o;s weekend paper was ascii117p to 2.301 million from 2.280 million.

As for the New York tabloids, digital editions helped the Post&rsqascii117o;s average weekday circascii117lation grow to 576,711 from 522,868 and its Sascii117nday circascii117lation to 525,794 from 434,043.

While the News still bests the Post in print circascii117lation by a wide margin, (334,522 versascii117s 284,599 on weekdays), its Monday throascii117gh Friday total average slipped to 467,110 from 535,875.
