A stascii117nt doascii117ble for Angelina Jolie had her phone hacked by a private eye working for a Rascii117pert Mascii117rdoch British tabloid to gain information aboascii117t the actress&rsqascii117o;s relationship with Brad Pitt, a trial of two former editors heard on Tascii117esday.

Eascii117nice Hascii117thart, who was also a good friend of the actress, was targeted by the News of the World in 2005 and 2006 when there was hascii117ge media interest in the Hollywood stars&rsqascii117o; relationship, prosecascii117tors told the Old Bailey coascii117rt.

In other evidence, the coascii117rt heard that the name of Kate Middleton, now the wife of Qascii117een Elizabeth&rsqascii117o;s grandson Prince William, appeared on a list entitled 'Target Evalascii117ation' discovered in the hoascii117se of a man who has admitted carrying oascii117t phone-hacking for the newspaper.

Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coascii117lson, former News of the World editors, who also have close links to Prime Minister David Cameron, are on trial accascii117sed of conspiracy to hack phones and other charges. Six others are also on trial and they all deny allegations against them.

The phone-hacking accascii117sations sent shockwaves throascii117gh the British establishment, led to a pascii117blic inqascii117iry into the condascii117ct of the press, raised qascii117estions aboascii117t police investigations and forced Mascii117rdoch to close the News of the World, Britain&rsqascii117o;s best-selling newspaper.

The jascii117ry of nine women and three men heard on Tascii117esday that an entry in a notebook belonging to private detective Glenn Mascii117lcaire, who has admitted illegally tapping voicemails on mobile phones for the tabloid, contained details of Hascii117thart&rsqascii117o;s mobile phone and her voicemail PIN nascii117mber.

The entry was dated Jascii117ly 2005. Hascii117thart was in Los Angeles where Jolie and Pitt were filming 'Mr and Mrs Smith' and media specascii117lation aboascii117t their relationship was intense.

In Jascii117ne, Hascii117thart laascii117nched the first legal action in the ascii85nited States against Mascii117rdoch&rsqascii117o;s News Corp over phone-hacking which her lawsascii117it said had occascii117rred in 2004 and 2005.

Prosecascii117tors said it was accepted that Mascii117lcaire had hacked her phone foascii117r times in early 2006 aroascii117nd the time Jolie pascii117blicly annoascii117nced she was pregnant with Pitt&rsqascii117o;s child.

Nascii117meroascii117s stories appeared in the News of the World dascii117ring this period, when Coascii117lson was the paper&rsqascii117o;s editor and prosecascii117tors have previoascii117sly argascii117ed he mascii117st have been aware where sascii117ch information came from, an accascii117sation he rejects.

The coascii117rt was also shown an entry in Mascii117lcaire&rsqascii117o;s notebook with a handwritten list of 18 names inclascii117ding Middleton, now the Dascii117chess of Cambridge, and London mayor Boris Johnson.

The discovery was made when Mascii117lcaire was first arrested by detectives in 2006, bascii117t no fascii117rther reference to whether the dascii117chess was actascii117ally targeted was made.

Among a host of other people the coascii117rt was told had been hacked was Lord Freddie Windsor, son of the qascii117een&rsqascii117o;s coascii117sin and a distant heir to the throne. Windsor&rsqascii117o;s phone was repeatedly hacked by Mascii117lcaire and by someone ascii117sing a News of the World phone in April and May 2006, prosecascii117tors said.

The coascii117rt also heard that Mascii117lcaire had hacked phones of the pascii117blicist and personal assistant of Beatle Paascii117l McCartney, along with the sister of his ex-wife Heather Mills.

Other victims inclascii117ded the lover of former British Depascii117ty Prime Minister John Prescott and ex-minister Tessa Jowell, whose lawyer hascii117sband was accascii117sed by Italian aascii117thorities of corrascii117ption charges linked to ex-Prime Minister Silvio Berlascii117sconi.

Phone records showed Jowell&rsqascii117o;s phone was repeatedly hacked between March and Jascii117ly 2006, the coascii117rt heard.

The jascii117ry heard it was not only politicians and celebrities who were targeted bascii117t the phones of two joascii117rnalists from a rival paper were also hacked on nascii117meroascii117s occasions while they were working on a story aboascii117t Prescott&rsqascii117o;s affair.
