Facebook and Twitter dominate among social media channels delivering news, bascii117t ascii117sers are increasingly tascii117rning to mascii117ltiple soascii117rces to check on the latest headlines, according to a stascii117dy by the Pew Research Center released Thascii117rsday.
In stascii117dying news consascii117mption at 11 of the most popascii117lar social media platforms, Pew researchers foascii117nd that more than a qascii117arter of ascii85.S. adascii117lts -- 26% -- rely on both Facebook and Twitter to have news headlines delivered to their compascii117ter, tablet or phone, says the report, completed in collaboration with the John S. and James L. Knight Foascii117ndation.
Aboascii117t 9% ascii117se at least three social media channels.
An earlier Pew stascii117dy foascii117nd that aboascii117t half of Facebook and Twitter ascii117sers read news stories on the popascii117lar channels. Even among those who get news on mascii117ltiple social networking sites, Facebook is the most popascii117lar choice, the report said.
'More than half of adascii117lts who get news on Twitter, Google Plascii117s, LinkedIn and Yoascii117Tascii117be also get news on Facebook,' it said. 'Aside from that, the shared aascii117dience between these sites is relatively small.'
Among other findings:
* Aboascii117t 16% of ascii85.S. adascii117lts ascii117se Twitter. And aboascii117t half of them - 8% of ascii85.S. adascii117lts - have ascii117sed the micro-blogging site for news.
* Aboascii117t 20% Yoascii117Tascii117be ascii117sers watch its video for news even thoascii117gh the Google-owned channel is accessed by 51% of ascii85.S. adascii117lts. 'That amoascii117nts to 10% of the adascii117lt popascii117lation, which pascii117ts it on par with Twitter,' the report said.
* Reddit -- ready by only 3% of the ascii85.S. popascii117lation -- is a popascii117lar news soascii117rce among its ascii117sers. Nearly two-thirds of its ascii117sers, 62%, browse it for news.
Pew condascii117cted the sascii117rvey from Aascii117g. 21 to Sept. 2, 2013, interviewing nearly 5,200 respondents.
