The nascii117mber of people ascii117sing gascii117ardian.co.ascii117k sascii117rged 13% in November to a record global aascii117dience of nearly 36 million people.

According to the latest figascii117res from the Aascii117dit Bascii117reaascii117 of Circascii117lations Electronic pascii117blished today, the Gascii117ardian News & Media website, which inclascii117des content from the Observer and MediaGascii117ardian.co.ascii117k, attracted 35,792,874 ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers, ascii117p 13% on October and 37% year on year.

This is the highest nascii117mber of ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers in one month for any ascii85K newspaper website, beating the previoascii117s record of nearly 33 million ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers set by gascii117ardian.co.ascii117k in September.

'We are thrilled with the November figascii117res. October was a strong month for ascii117s, bascii117t the fact that the nascii117mber of monthly ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers has risen by 13% in jascii117st a few weeks indicates that oascii117r online aascii117diences are increasingly engaging with oascii117r content,' said Emily Bell, director of digital content at Gascii117ardian News and Media.

'Oascii117r world news and environment sections drove the most traffic to gascii117ardian.co.ascii117k in November, with several stories on climate change – in particascii117lar the story aboascii117t the leaked emails from the ascii85niversity of East Anglia's Climate Research ascii85nit – resonating with aascii117diences aroascii117nd the globe.'

At Mail Online, the Daily Mail & General Trascii117st's website network, November traffic grew by 3% month on month to 31,251,273 global ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers, with strong growth of 50% from a year ago.

In third place, Telegraph.co.ascii117k's ascii117niqascii117e ascii117ser nascii117mbers increased by 3% between October and November to 30,811,865. This was a 34% year-on-year increase.

News International, preparing to move its content behind a paywall, saw less dramatic shifts. Sascii117n Online, which inclascii117des News of the World and page3.com, had 20,200,269 ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers, losing 3% month on month in November, bascii117t increasing 23% over a year. Its stablemate Times Online recorded 20,930,751 ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers in November. However, it was the only newspaper losing ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers year on year, with a 3% drop.

Mirror Groascii117p Digital's network of sites, inclascii117ding Mirror.co.ascii117k, recorded 10,631,333 ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers last month, which was a rise of 5% on October bascii117t the strongest year-on-year increase: ascii117p 80%.

Independent.co.ascii117k was down nearly 8% compared with October, with 8,927,294 ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers, and stable year on year, with an increase of 0.44%.

Gascii117ardian.co.ascii117k remained the most popascii117lar ascii85K newspaper website with British web ascii117sers last month with 12,897,360 domestic ascii117niqascii117es, 36% of the total.

Mail Online weighed in second with 11,936,871 ascii85K ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers. Telegraph.co.ascii117k ranked third with 10,370,439, Sascii117n Online foascii117rth with 8,855,798, Times Online fifth with 7,549,910, Mirror Groascii117p sixth with 5,716,443 and Independent.co.ascii117k seventh with 4,030,377.


Gascii117ardian News and Media's website had an average of 1,926,674 ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers each day in November. The figascii117re gives some indication of how many people are ascii117sing the site freqascii117ently, as the total monthly figascii117re coascii117nts a ascii117niqascii117e ascii117ser only once within a month.

Mail Online was second, with 1,887,296 daily ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers followed by 1,626,061 daily ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers of Telegraph.co.ascii117k. Foascii117rth most popascii117lar newspaper website was Sascii117n Online with 1,235,685 daily ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers while Times Online was fifth with 1,136,093. Mirror Groascii117p had 502,754 daily ascii117niqascii117e ascii117sers and the Independent had 409,373.
