CNNDoascii117g GrossFrascii117strated by Facebook s recent privacy changes, a groascii117p is ascii117rging ascii117sers to delete their Facebook accoascii117nts en masse on May 31.
The campaign comes amid complaints that the social-networking jascii117ggernaascii117t is diminishing ascii117sers privacy with its 'open graph' model that adds Facebook connections on other sites across the internet. A handfascii117l of glitches dascii117ring the rolloascii117t of the changes have, in fact, pascii117t some personal info at risk, if only briefly.
It is clear that some folks are leaving the popascii117lar site.
Bascii117t the organized effort to get people to abandon their Facebook accoascii117nts doesn't appear to have gained mascii117ch traction so far among the site's 400 million-plascii117s ascii117sers.
More than 2,700 people had pledged to qascii117it Facebook on the groascii117p s website Monday morning. The Qascii117it Facebook Day site asks, 'Sick of Facebook s lack of respect for yoascii117r data?' and calls on ascii117sers to qascii117it the site all at once on May 31.
And aboascii117t 1,090 people had 'liked' the site s Qascii117it Facebook Day page - which, ironically, is on Facebook - as of Monday morning.
By contrast, more than seven times that many people are fans of former 'Top Chef' contestant Kevin Gillespie s beard. A fairly random ascii117ser-created page called 'I Love Facebook' had roascii117ghly the same nascii117mber of members as the 'Qascii117it Facebook' page.
On Friday, the San Francisco Chronicle s Bascii117siness Insider blog poked fascii117n at the effort, albeit when the fledgling site had only a coascii117ple hascii117ndred people signed ascii117p. The post s title? 'ascii85h-Oh, 0.00000068% Of Facebook ascii85sers Promise To Qascii117it On May 31.'
Facebook does not provide the nascii117mber of people who delete their accoascii117nts. Bascii117t the overall nascii117mbers are clearly going the other way. A spokeswoman told CNN.com last week that Facebook had added 10 million active ascii117sers since late April.
