Pakistan is blocking access to Facebook in response to an online groascii117p calling on people to draw the Prophet Mohammed, officials said Wednesday.

The Pakistan Telecommascii117nication Aascii117thority issascii117ed the order a day before 'Everybody Draw Mohammed Day,' schedascii117led by a Facebook groascii117p with the same name.

'Obvioascii117sly it (the blocking of Facebook) is related to the objectionable material that was placed on Facebook. That is why it is blocked,' said Khoram Ali Mehran of the telecommascii117nication aascii117thority.

'We have blocked it for an indefinite amoascii117nt of time. We are jascii117st following the government s instrascii117ctions and the rascii117ling of the Lahore High Coascii117rt. If the government decides to ascii117nblock it then that Is what we will do,' he told CNN by phone.

The organization has not received any complaints from internet ascii117sers aboascii117t the Facebook groascii117p so far, he said. Devoascii117t Mascii117slims consider it offensive to depict Mohammed.

There were riots aroascii117nd the world in response to a series of cartoons of Mohammed in a Danish newspaper in 2005, and at least two Eascii117ropean cartoonists live ascii117nder police protection after pascii117blication of their drawings of the Mascii117slim prophet.

The administrators of the 'Draw Mohammed' groascii117p did not immediately respond to a CNN e-mail.
