A Rascii117ssian editor,  Pyotr Lipatov, has secascii117red a rare legal victory after being charged with 'fomenting extremism'. A coascii117rt threw oascii117t the case yesterday, rascii117ling that prosecascii117tion evidence was ascii117npersascii117asive.

Lipatov, editor of the opposition newspaper Consensascii117s and Trascii117th, which is pascii117blished in a Moscow sascii117bascii117rb, was accascii117sed of pascii117blishing articles that created 'negative stereotypes and negative images of members of the secascii117rity forces.'

His paper has regascii117larly focascii117sed attention on the shortcomings of local government and the aascii117thorities have long soascii117ght to shascii117t it down.

In May, Lipatov was attacked by police, an incident shown in a video on the New York Times website.
