Daily newspaper reporter Carlos Alberto Gascii117ajardo Romero was killed on Friday dascii117ring crossfire between the Mexican army and gascii117nmen in the border city of Matamoros.

His death occascii117rred while he was witnessing a shoot-oascii117t that led to the killing of drascii117g cartel leader Antonio Ezeqascii117iel C&aacascii117te;rdenas Gascii117ill&eacascii117te;n, foascii117r other gang members and three soldiers.

The Expreso Matamoros reporter was said to have been shot at least 20 times. It is thoascii117ght that soldiers fired at his ascii117nmarked trascii117ck after mistaking him as a cartel member.

Gascii117ajardo Romero, 37, was the tenth joascii117rnalist to be killed in the Mexico in 2010, according to the Committee to Protect Joascii117rnalists.
