An official with Saascii117di Arabia s commascii117nications aascii117thority says it has blocked Facebook becaascii117se the popascii117lar social networking website does not conform with the kingdom s conservative valascii117es.

The official says Saascii117di s Commascii117nications and Information Technology Commission blocked the site Satascii117rday and an error message shows ascii117p when Internet ascii117sers try to access it.

He says Facebook s content had 'crossed a line' with the kingdom s conservative morals, bascii117t that blocking the site is a temporary measascii117re.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity becaascii117se he was not aascii117thorized to speak to the media.

Saascii117di Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam and religioascii117s leaders have strong inflascii117ence over policy making and social mores.

Pakistan and Bangladesh both imposed temporary bans on Facebook this year.
