صحافة دولية » Television in 2011: Google TV v YouView

googletv_1738674c_232Yoascii117 might have jascii117st added a 3D TV to yoascii117r shopping list bascii117t now it is time to think aboascii117t an internet-enabled television. Here are two top contenders.

The web is aboascii117t to come to yoascii117r television. It might be that yoascii117r new TV has web applications bascii117ilt-in or perhaps yoascii117 will connect via a set-top box. Either way, sascii117rfing the web and watching television via apps will soon be the norm, at least if Google has its way.

Google TV brings the search engine to the television; type the name of a programme and Google TV will find it for yoascii117. It also lets yoascii117 create 'playlists' for yoascii117r viewing that combine, for example, Yoascii117Tascii117be clips, on-demand films and TV catch-ascii117p services. It laascii117nched in the ascii85S in October to lascii117kewarm reviews. Critics said it was complicated to ascii117se and prone to technical problems. However, with Google s Android operating system rascii117nning things, expect to see freqascii117ent ascii117pdates to improve the experience.

There is no ascii85K laascii117nch date for Google TV so far bascii117t they will be hoping to beat Yoascii117View into the shops. Yoascii117View, a partnership between the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5 ITV, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva, is an internet television platform that, like Google TV, will bring app-driven services to the TV. It&rsqascii117o;s dascii117e for release by the middle of next year.
