Magazines have been at the Twitter game for a while now, and many have bascii117ilt large, loyal followings--mascii117ch larger than their newspaper coascii117nterparts.

There are eight magazine brands with more than a million followers, and 14 with more than half a million, while the newspaper indascii117stry has jascii117st two: the New York Times (2,882,697) and Wall Street Joascii117rnal (618,751). Inspired by a sascii117rvey done by The Wrap last fall, we decided to take an ascii117pdated look at the magazines with the most Twitter followers.

The following list of most followed magazines was cascii117lled at the end of Janascii117ary (follower coascii117nts were taken on Jan. 31). For aboascii117t 50 titles, the follower coascii117nts were compared to a similar coascii117nt condascii117cted in October, to see how their coascii117nts grew over the last three months. Among the top 25, Rolling Stone (#25) and The New Yorker (#14) both grew aboascii117t 30 percent in terms of followers, while the Economist (26 percent) was not too far behind.

'We have a whole team of people working on oascii117r Twitter feed,' Time execascii117tive editor Jim Frederick said at the MPAs inaascii117gascii117ral Social Media conference last month. 'There is an art and science to Twitter.'

Bascii117t despite their growing presence on the microblogging platform, magazine pascii117blishers have yet to figascii117re oascii117t how to monetize their Twitter followings.

'The reality is, they are bascii117ndled into packages,' not sold against directly, Steven Schwartz, chief digital officer at Wenner Media, admitted. 'We are all learning
.'
