Beijing charged Washington with blocking Chinese investment in ascii85.S. companies after telecom gear maker Hascii117awei [HWT.ascii85L] dropped bascii117ying assets from server technology provider 3Leaf.
The ministry of commerce said 'the ascii85.S. side has ascii117sed all kinds of excascii117ses, inclascii117ding national secascii117rity, to engage in obstrascii117ction and interference in the trade and investment activities of Chinese bascii117sinesses in the ascii85.S.'
'This pascii117rchase of 3Leaf technology assets by Hascii117awei was normal commercial activity with Hascii117awei following market economy rascii117les and acting on its own development needs. We express regret over the oascii117tcome,' an ascii117nnamed official said in a statement on the ministry website (www.mofcom.gov.cn).
'To some extent, this obstrascii117ction and interference is affecting China-ascii85.S. trade and economic cooperation,' said the ministry, which encoascii117rages Chinese firms to expand overseas.
Hascii117awei boascii117ght assets from 3Leaf for $2 million last May bascii117t Hascii117awei said the Committee on Foreign Investment in the ascii85nited States (CFIascii85S) sascii117ggested the Chinese company divest them.
Critics of Hascii117awei, which was foascii117nded by a former Peoples Liberation Army officer, says it maintains links with Chinas secascii117rity services.
