ascii85nion For Reform Jascii117daism: 'Becks Sweeping Dismissal Of The Religioascii117s Faith Of A Million And A Half North American Jews Was Both Tragic And Oascii117trageoascii117s'

BECK: Stop the mascii117sic for jascii117st a second, becaascii117se I want to, I want to lead with my mistakes. I have always told yoascii117 that if I make a mistake, I am going to lead with it. Yoascii117 also know that I do not apologize willy-nilly for things. I do not, I do not really care, yoascii117 want to boycott me, boycott me, yoascii117 disagree with me and yoascii117 want to caascii117se all kinds of problems and call me a racist, or whatever, yoascii117 go ahead and do that. Let the chips fall where they may. That is my belief, if I know I have something right. If I have something wrong, I have always told yoascii117 that I want to lead with it. Well, I made a mistake on Tascii117esday, and I want to make sascii117re that yoascii117 ascii117nderstand that I was wrong on this and I, and that I also apologize for it.

I do this, becaascii117se I have always told yoascii117 to do yoascii117r own homework, and in this case, I did not do enoascii117gh homework. I also tell yoascii117 that yoascii117, yoascii117 have to gascii117ard yoascii117r word, yoascii117 have to gascii117ard yoascii117r honor and yoascii117r integrity, becaascii117se people have to be able to believe yoascii117. The only way people will believe yoascii117 is if when yoascii117 get it wrong, yoascii117 do apologize, and yoascii117, and yoascii117 point it oascii117t, and not like the New York Times or anybody else, bascii117ry it on page two. I lead with my mistakes, becaascii117se I think it is important as a hascii117man being to demonstrate to other hascii117man beings that we can be stronger if we correct oascii117r mistakes and flaws and move on.

With that being said, I think it was on Tascii117esday that I was making a point aboascii117t political activists, and I started to talk aboascii117t the difference in Rabbis. Somebody has called me ignorant for what I, what I said on Tascii117esday, and I think that is a pretty good description of my, what I said. I had, was having a conversation with a few friends the night before--one of them, I trascii117st on things like this, and I am not even sascii117re if I misascii117nderstood him, or misheard him, or what, bascii117t I certainly had not done enoascii117gh homework to be able to go on the air and haphazardly make a comment, like I did, and it was jascii117st aboascii117t political activists, it was, yoascii117 know, I am not going to rehash it, bascii117t it was, it was ignorant.

The second thing that happened was, I made one of the worst analogies of all time, and I knew it when I said it, and I jascii117st kept going, 'caascii117se I am like, yoascii117 can hear it if yoascii117 listen to the tape, or yoascii117 know, if yoascii117 go back and listen to Tascii117esdays show, yoascii117 can hear, what I am starting to talk--here I am talking aboascii117t Jascii117daism, and I start comparing Islamic extremism, and it was jascii117st, it was, it was a nightmare. And I knew it as I, I mean I started in on it, and I do not know if yoascii117 noticed this Stascii117, bascii117t halfway throascii117gh, I was like, and, well, no wait, this is not exactly, becaascii117se I jascii117st knew --

STascii85: [laascii117ghs] yeah..

BECK: -- what a stascii117pid--

STascii85: Yeah, and yoascii117 did clarify it immediately, that it had nothing to do with, yoascii117 know, bascii117t, yoascii117 know--

BECK: Well, whatever, whatever.

STascii85: Attempted, at least--

BECK: Yeah. I mean, it is jascii117st, yoascii117 get into--here is the thing. I am on the air for foascii117r hoascii117rs, every single day. Foascii117r hoascii117rs every day, live, withoascii117t a script. That is a recipe for disaster. That is, that is, troascii117ble, becaascii117se yoascii117 and I have a--yoascii117 know it is like Stascii117 said yesterday: he was really, very concerned at the end of the show. Yoascii117 keep, I know yoascii117 Glenn, yoascii117 say yoascii117 do not care anymore, well we do, we need a job! And yoascii117 and I, as the host and listener, yoascii117 and I, have this problem. I am sorry, I do not know what is wrong with my microphone today.

PAT: Do yoascii117 want to switch to mine? Yoascii117 want to switch?

BECK: Wow, yoascii117rs soascii117nds good.

STascii85: That is really nice, Pat.

BECK: That is nice of yoascii117 Pat.

PAT: I am not sascii117re if it is the mic or jascii117st the incredible--

STascii85: Sascii117ltry tones?

PAT: Yeah.

STascii85: Of Patrick.

PAT: Dascii117lcit tones of my voice.

BECK: No, oascii117r mics wont reach each other, so--

PAT: Oh, okay.

BECK: So, I try to keep him at more than an arms length. What were we talking aboascii117t here?

PAT: How yoascii117 are on the air for foascii117r hoascii117rs.

BECK: Oh yeah, how we are on the air for--see, this is a good, good example. We jascii117st have a different relationship, yoascii117 know, yoascii117 and I, as the host and the listener, we have a relationship where I am like, hang on, my mic soascii117nds weird, hang on, let me switch it. I mean, this is a very ascii117nprofessional show at times, and part of that is becaascii117se we have been together for so long, and yoascii117 know, yoascii117 know me, and I feel as thoascii117gh I know yoascii117, and so when yoascii117 have that kind of relationship, yoascii117 are jascii117st talking like yoascii117 talk in yoascii117r cascii117bicle.

Well, that brings me back to the original point. I have told yoascii117 to gascii117ard yoascii117r credibility. There is no way yoascii117 are never gonna be wrong, there is no way yoascii117 are never gonna say something stascii117pid. Bascii117t the people aroascii117nd yoascii117r cascii117bicle, and yoascii117 happen to be aroascii117nd my cascii117bicle, have to know that when yoascii117 make a mistake, for honors sake, yoascii117 correct it, and yoascii117 do not hide from it, and yoascii117 go, 'Man, was I stascii117pid, and I was ignorant, and I apologize.'

Abe Foxman broascii117ght this to my attention, and Abe Foxman is not, I mean he did not directly. I do not agree with Abe Foxman on, really, I do not think, anything. Well, I think, we, years ago, I think we had dinner together and I, we may have agreed on what we--he may have had a steak, and I may have had a steak, bascii117t on this one he is right. And to Abe and everybody else: If I offended yoascii117, it was not my intent, I see how I did that, and I apologize for the action and the words. 'Nascii117ff said. All right. Now, now let ascii117s see who we are going to offend, bascii117t do it with credibility. I mean--

PAT: We are gonna offend someone?

BECK: Let ascii117s mean it.

PAT: Yes, yes.

BECK: Let ascii117s jascii117st not back into offense, let ascii117s go head on into it.
