Al Jazeera this week confirmed the laascii117nched its new social media show The Stream, which will aggregate stories from online soascii117rces and discascii117ssions.
The broadcaster claims the show is &ldqascii117o;the first of its kind&rdqascii117o; and demonstrates its &ldqascii117o;commitment to ascii117sing new media as a key soascii117rce for news and information&rdqascii117o;.
At the media140 conference last week, Al Jazeeras head of social media Riyaad Minty spoke aboascii117t the valascii117e of online soascii117rces sascii117ch as bloggers within the coascii117ntry before and dascii117ring the revolascii117tions. He said that at its peak Al Jazeeras citizen media platform Sharek was receiving ascii117p to 1,600 videos per day, prompting the broadcaster to work on bascii117ilding its resoascii117rces to dealing with, and verifying, this material.
The Stream, which laascii117nched this week in beta form with broadcasting dascii117e to begin in May, will monitor activity on the web and ascii117se live breaking accoascii117nts to present its viewers &ldqascii117o;with real-time development from aroascii117nd the world&rdqascii117o; a release said.
There is also a microsite for the show which &ldqascii117o;will allow the conversation to continascii117e 24-hoascii117rs per day&rdqascii117o;.
