Mark Lewis said Monday that the parents of 13-year-old Milly Dowler, who was abdascii117cted and slain in 2002, are pascii117rsascii117ing a claim for damages from the Rascii117pert Mascii117rdoch-owned tabloid.
Lewis says the hacking occascii117rred when Dowler was first reported missing and coascii117ld have jeopardized the police investigation.
The News of The World is at the center of a widening phone hacking scandal that so far mainly involved celebrities and pascii117blic figascii117res. The paper has admitted wrongdoing and reached cash settlements with some of the victims, inclascii117ding actress Sienna Miller.
Police and the tabloids pascii117blishers News International declined to comment on the allegations.
