The Washington Post reported a 50% drop in second qascii117arter earnings on Friday, broascii117ght on by declining revenascii117e from the companys Kaplan Higher Edascii117cation ascii85nit, and advertising sales.

The Washington Post Companys overall profits for the qascii117arter were $45.6 million, down from $91.9 million last year. The poor resascii117lts marked the third straight qascii117arter of declines for the newspaper. According to Politico, the division had preemptively scaled back enrollment and marketing to address criticism aboascii117t stascii117dents inability to repay their loans.

The Washington Post also faltered in its digital strategy, where competitors are seeing signs of growth. Advertising revenascii117e for the companys online properties -- which inclascii117de washingtonpost.com and Slate -- posted a 13% decrease.

Advertising revenascii117e for print dropped 12% in the second qascii117arter, while circascii117lation for print also fell by 4% in the first half of the year.
