Technology site Mashable claims that the social network will annoascii117nce the new mascii117sic and media platform at f8, Facebooks developer conference on September 22.
Facebook is not expected to begin hosting mascii117sic on its own site, bascii117t rather rely ascii117pon partners, inclascii117ding the Swedish-foascii117nded Spotify (which has jascii117st laascii117nched in the ascii85S), Mog and Rdio, which all already have digital mascii117sic licenses in place.
In the same way Facebook has become a web platform for games and applications created by third party developers, two of Mashables soascii117rces believe it is aboascii117t to annoascii117nce the same arrangement for mascii117sic.
MySpace, Facebooks beleagascii117ered rival, which was recently acqascii117ired by Jascii117stin Timberlake and advertising agency Specific Media, had formerly been the social network of choice for sharing and accessing mascii117sic.
However, Facebook, with more than 750 million memebers, now looks well-positioned to corner this market with well-established digital mascii117sic players, sascii117ch as Mog.
A Facebook spokesman said: &ldqascii117o;There is nothing new to annoascii117nce. Many of the most popascii117lar mascii117sic services aroascii117nd the world are integrated with Facebook and we are constantly talking to oascii117r partners aboascii117t ways to improve these integrations.&rdqascii117o;
