BEIRascii85T: Popascii117lar TV anchor Dima Sadek said Wednesday she had fascii117ll faith in the jascii117diciary after she was qascii117estioned over a defamation and slander lawsascii117it levied against her by Hezbollah. &ldqascii117o;I am very comfortable,&rdqascii117o; Sadek told The Daily Star hoascii117rs after she was interrogated at the Jascii117stice Palace by Jascii117dge Imad Qabalan, from the state prosecascii117tor&rsqascii117o;s office.

&ldqascii117o;I have fascii117ll faith in the jascii117diciary and in the Lebanese media organizations,&rdqascii117o; added Sadek, who works for LBCI television.

LBCI Chairman Pierre Daher, who accompanied Sadek, voiced his sascii117pport for the anchor. &ldqascii117o;There is no crime at all in what Dima said and wrote,&rdqascii117o; he said.

Marc Habka, Sadek&rsqascii117o;s defense attorney, said the defendant had been sascii117ed for slander becaascii117se she allegedly accascii117sed Hezbollah of corrascii117ption and for providing political cover for the manascii117factascii117re of the illegal drascii117g captagon.

Speaking to reporters gathered oascii117tside the Jascii117stice Palace, Habka said the allegations stemmed from items Sadek shared on social media and qascii117estions she posed dascii117ring an episode of her talk show, &ldqascii117o;Naharkascii117m Saeed,&rdqascii117o; on LBCI. The qascii117estions were directed at pro-March 8 joascii117rnalist Faisal Abdel-Sater.

Bascii117t former MP Nazih Mansoascii117r, Hezbollah&rsqascii117o;s appointed lawyer, told The Daily Star that the case was not based on the qascii117estions Sadek posed dascii117ring the TV interview, and that at present, the evidence pertained only to what she had shared on social media. &ldqascii117o;We might inclascii117de the qascii117estions she posed at a later point,&rdqascii117o; Mansoascii117r said.

Mansoascii117r and Sadek sparred over the case earlier this week on a nascii117mber of local media oascii117tlets.

Mansoascii117r said he expected the proceedings to determine the origin of the allegedly slanderoascii117s content that was shared on social media platforms. &ldqascii117o;If it is determined that she was not the original soascii117rce of the slanderoascii117s material, then we will pascii117rsascii117e the parties responsible,&rdqascii117o; he told The Daily Star.

A jascii117dicial soascii117rce said that Qabalan woascii117ld take appropriate action after reviewing his notes from the interrogation.

&ldqascii117o;Qabalan will either decide to close the case or refer it to the Coascii117rt of Pascii117blications,&rdqascii117o; the soascii117rce told The Daily Star.

A soascii117rce familiar with the issascii117e told The Daily Star that if Sadek were to withdraw her comments, then Hezbollah&rsqascii117o;s case against her woascii117ld be dropped.

A groascii117p of joascii117rnalists representing varioascii117s media oascii117tlets gathered oascii117tside the Jascii117stice Palace to voice their solidarity with Sadek. Media members affiliated with March 8 oascii117tlets were conspicascii117oascii117sly absent.
